MY STORY

My name is Maria Coutts. As a designer, what inspires me the most is the people I work with. I make it my job to get to know you and find out what you like, what you wear, what catches your eye during our discussions and ultimately, what would make you or your special someone happy. So as a designer you become my muse.

I get a real kick out of pulling possibilities out of your thoughts and making them real, and then watching your joy as you see the thing you have wanted on yourself.

When we meet, I will tell you stories, make you laugh and share my experiences, all of which contribute to our relationship and making the piece you want. Contact me to make an appointment and let’s get started.

I have grown up in this industry, and am part of the third generation of jewellers and designers spanning 52 years. Many nights were spent discussing new, exciting and challenging developemnts in jewellery. This lifetime of accumulated experience is now condensed and enhanced by my own knowledge of jewellery.

I use that knowledge to help my customers design bespoke pieces that suit them, tell their story and make them smile.

After time in other industries (working in psychology, politics, HR, business management and Government), I have realised that jewellery is in my blood. This is my passion, and my truth lies in what I create.

THE PROCESS

1.

We start with getting to know each other.

I consider a connection to who I am working with extremely important. If we are enjoying the process, you know it will come out right, regardless of whether you are designing for yourself or a loved one. A collaborative style means you own the journey and the piece it results in.

I like to see joy, excitement and romance in how a creation is evolving. This process is special and you should feel that every step of the way.

So first, we meet, we chat and we find out whether we are well-matched. If you like my style, then you won’t be able to resist what comes next. It’s fun!

2.

Secondly, we establish a brief. What are the core elements, needs and purposes of the item? This is when we talk about the design style, emotional references, financial and time requirements.

3.

Then, we find our inspiration. What appeals to you? Why? I have a particular method to help me understand each person I work with. Let’s discover the possible options, some of which you may not even know about! Then we can get excited by the results and look forward to what’s next.

4.

It’s time for the initial design. One concept or multiple concepts, let’s see where this takes us. I make sure that we collaborate heavily during this stage to make sure we get it just right.

5.

At the final design stage, we go through the professional blueprint and tweak anything that still needs refinement before the construction phase. By now, you will be able to envisage the finished piece.

6.

It’s time to confirm and go ahead. Confidence is a must here. I need to see you excited, and once we have that happen we know its perfect! At that point you invest and the go button is pressed.

7.

Collect and enjoy. I will keep you up to date as the item is being made, then collection is coordinated and you get to open the box and see the results of our hard work together. That’s the best bit.

TESTIMONIALS

Dealing with Marie Jeanette designs was fantastic. We used her to make a beautiful push ring for the birth of our son. The whole process was great. She sat down with us and asked us so many questions we’d never thought a designer would ask but they were all the questions she needed answered to find out exactly what we wanted.

She found the most incredible sapphire for us and diamonds to match and all within our budget. This woman knows her stuff and does it so well. The end result is spectacular. Highly recommend her any day.”

“Maria is a thoughtful and creative designer. She took to the time work through many design options for my ring, I’m so happy with the result! It’s not just a ring it’s a statement, thanks to her!”
